Cats typically live longer than most dogs, and it is no longer uncommon for them to live until 20 or beyond. How long an individual cat will live depends on numerous factors such as genetics, whether kept indoors or not, type of diet, and the appropriate veterinary care he/she receives.
The rule of thumb is that at around age 7, a cat is considered to be middle-aged. At age ten and above, a cat is a senior-citizen age.

As you can see, a seven-year-old cat is well into his forties. One year for a cat is equivalent to four human years, many changes can occur in what is a relatively short time for us. For this reason, we suggest twice-yearly exams on cats over ten years of age and annual exams on younger cats.
As cats age and abnormalities are shown on physical exam, Dr. Brenda and Dr. Carrie may recommend one or more of the following tests to ensure your cat's good health:
If we can identify an illness early, we may be able to keep your cat feeling better longer! Call us today at 509-535-6369 to learn more about how we can help your cat.
